Tev Aho

Tev completed most of his urological training in New Zealand before moving to Cambridge in 2003 to complete a Fellowship in Urooncology. He was appointed a consultant urological surgeon at Addenbrooke's NHS Foundation Trust and Hinchingbrooke NHS Trust in 2004, and has admitting rights at the Spire Cambridge Lea and Cambridge Nuffield Hospitals.


He spent 1 year in Tauranga, New Zealand working with the urologists who pioneered holmium laser prostate surgery. During this period that he was trained in the technique of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) which remains the most advanced form of laser prostate surgery. He has also been involved in evaluating HoLEP in clinical trials. Tev has established holmium laser prostate surgery in Cambridge where he has performed more than 300 laser operations. He is the inaugural president of the Holmium User Group which comprises UK urologists who use holmium lasers, and has mentored urologists from the UK and abroad in HoLEP. He has made a number of presentations on HoLEP at national and international meetings and has published on the subject. Cambridge now has a national and international reputation as a centre of excellence for laser prostate surgery.

Tev's other interests include laparoscopic kidney surgery, laser stone surgery, prostate disease and general urological problems.
