Mr. James Armitage

I am a Consultant Urologist specialising in kidney conditions, including kidney cancer, as well as general urology. I have particular experience in treating benign prostate enlargement (BPH), a common condition that can affect urinary flow and quality of life.

I regularly perform minimally invasive kidney surgery, including procedures such as kidney removal and repair, using the da Vinci robotic system. These advanced techniques use small incisions and offer high surgical precision, which can mean less pain, shorter hospital stays, and a quicker recovery compared to traditional open surgery.

I trained in medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London and completed my early surgical training in Chichester. I also undertook specialist research into prostate enlargement at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, earning an MD. My advanced urology training took place in the East of England, where I gained extensive experience at leading centres including Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

I was appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in 2012, where I developed a busy practice providing open, laparoscopic, and robotic kidney surgery.

Alongside my clinical work, I remain actively involved in research and education. I regularly publish in international medical journals, present at national and international meetings, and teach medical students and doctors in training. I am also an examiner for the FRCS (Urology), helping to train and assess future urologists.
