Men’s Health Check and Screening

The aim of health screening is to identify problems early so that they can be effectively treated and to try and prevent ill health through advice and treatment if necessary. These goals should enable you to enjoy a longer, healthier life.

Some men ask us for a “prostate health check”. This may be because they are worried about symptoms they have had when they pass urine, or because somebody they know or are related to has had prostate problems. We offer two different prostate health checks for these men, the Prostate Health Check, and the Prostate + Profile Health Check. We are currently developing a Well Man Health Check, which incorporates the prostate health check as well as performing a more in-depth look at your general health. If you have any specific concerns, then please contact us, and we can usually give you a price for a review of any particular concerns. Please contact us on 01223 323859 for more information.

Prostate Health Check

As all men age, the prostate grows larger, and this can cause symptoms, which can have an impact on quality of life. Such enlargement is commonly benign (non-cancerous), and doctors often use the PSA test to help differentiate between benign growth and cancerous growth. The PSA test is not, however, very accurate at differentiating between the two.

Included in the Prostate Health Check are:

  • analysis of your IPSS score
  • analysis of your voiding diary
  • discussion of your PSA blood test results if already done by your GP or of the sample you have analysed with Cambridge Urology Partnership (the hospital will charge you for the blood test)
  • a urine analysis: please bring a fresh urine specimen with you in a container that can be obtained from us
  • a physical examination will involve feeling your abdomen and palpation of your prostate gland by inserting a gloved finger in the rectum

All the findings will be discussed with you, and you will be given lifestyle advice including dietary advice, and a written report. Further tests which may be appropriate will also be discussed. The cost of any additional test is not included in this package.

The cost of this assessment is £270. This is payable in full on the day of your appointment, or prior to your appointment. This cost is not reimbursed by insurance companies.

Prostate + Profile Health Check

Such enlargement is commonly benign (non-cancerous), and doctors often use the PSA test to help differentiate between benign growth and cancerous growth. • a urine analysis: please bring a fresh urine specimen with you in a container that can be obtained from us
  • a physical examination will involve feeling your abdomen and palpation of your prostate gland by inserting a gloved finger in the rectum
  • a flow rate and residual urinary volume assessment to determine if your flow rate is restricted and whether you are emptying your bladder. For this test, you need to come to your appointment with a comfortably full bladder

All the findings will be discussed with you, and you will be given lifestyle advice including dietary advice, and a written report. Further tests which may be appropriate will also be discussed. The cost of any additional test is not included in this package.

The cost of this assessment is £345, and this is payable in full on the day of your appointment, or prior to your appointment. This cost is not reimbursed by insurance companies.
