Cambridge Urology Partnership are delighted to launch their new website. The site has been under development for a number of months, and aims to provide patients and other medical practitioners with information about us and our services. We have also included details of many urological conditions on the site, together with information leaflets. Where patients or relatives seek further information, we have provided links to other resources.
Through the site GPs can also sign up for our twice yearly Urology Newsletter (link to newsletter sign-up), which will provide updates which are occurring in urology and in the services offered to our patients by Cambridge Urology Partnership. We are always happy to receive feedback on the site from patients or other medical professionals.
With the installation of a new CT scanner at The Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, patients with suspected kidney stone now get rapid and state of the art investigation. Where possible, we will arrange for you to have your CT scan on the same day as your appointment, so that you can leave the clinic knowing if you have a kidney stone, and if so where it is and how it will be treated. Two of the Cambridge Urology Partnership urologists, Nimish Shah and Oliver Wiseman, are recognised specialists in the management and diagnosis of kidney stones.
Prostate Cancer gene 3 (PCA3) is a new gene-based test carried out on a urine sample. PCA3 is highly specific to prostate cancer and this gene is overexpressed in over 95% of prostate cancer cases. This is in contrast to PSA (prostate specific antigen, the blood test that is most commonly used to look for evidence of prostate cancer) which may be increased by conditions such as benign enlargement of the prostate (BPH or BPE) or inflammation of the prostate (prostatitis). The PCA3 test result is not affected by these conditions. To read more about PCA3, please click here.
